General Winter Camping Discussion / Re: Where in the world is HOOP?

I have not spoken to HOOP in months so I have no idea what's going on. When I did speak to him last, he was fine.

For those interested and that have asked, HOOP is doing just fine and will be back shortly.

Sadly, this was the last winter camp of the season up here...spring is now upon us. Such amazing memories from this winter.....31 nights out in all! Enjoy.

Just received this new tent and stove combo this week so it was time to give them a try out in the forest  Initial thoughts are that this tent and stove combo are impressive, but we'll see how it goes after a months use come early April.  The tent performed amazing as always and I have full confidence in any Snowtrekker product.

I was concerned with the stove not coming with an elbow though (Gstove was sold out of these), so i rigged up my own temporary solution to get by...still need some work on that but it'll make do for now.

I was also concerned with the 2.5" pipe that comes with this stove as I'm used to the 5" that comes with the knife-co's...but I'm so sick of my knife-co stoves....too much warping and messing around and always rusting even after painting....I'm hopeful this will be the long term solution....we will see!  Enjoy the video

This one kind of sucked, froze my hands and face and busted a camera lens...but the fire was warm and the Spruce tea tasty.   Enjoy.

The cold temps we've had this winter in the north have resulted in my firewood consumption being drastically increased.  With all other camp chores complete, I made time to take down some jack pine, split them up and get the into the woodshed.  At these temps, I'm burning through a mature Jack Pine every 2 days or so.....an incredible amount of wood and the cabin is insulated!  Enjoy and have a great weekend everyone!

General Winter Camping Discussion / Re: Manitoba Parks Winter Camping Rules
« on: February 21, 2019, 04:55:57 pm »
Parks officials usually have their heads in their asses. We have the same struggle in Woodland Caribou.....I am not aware of any park official ever winter camping in the park, but they always feel the need to lecture us each fall and early winter.

Just do your thing, get out and enjoy the back country

Oh the joys of hauling water in the winter.  Good to see this nice cold conditions and my water hole freezing solid every day! I guess this is better than melting snow, but 15 gallons a day does suck.  Enjoy and happy Wednesday.

For those interested, here is a video from day 3 of my trip into Woodland Caribou from this past January.  I've begun settling into the cabin and the daily routine up here, however my solar system has been giving me issues....that'll have to get sorted, but all else is well. Enjoy.
