Trip for Jan 2015
« on: April 07, 2014, 12:03:05 am »
I'm planning on putting together a group or a sort of "team" for a winter expedition trip to northern Canada next Jan. It's awhile yet, but I figured it's good to start planning ahead of time for logistics and such. Money would be spent wisely making the overall trip fairly cheap. Any takers/interested? :)

I think you will need to define Northern Canada and put firm dates out.
For me when you say Northern Canada I think of the Northern Wilds of BC

Goose Bay to Inuvik anyone, shouldn't take too long, provided there's enough ice.

Let's see drive to Goose Bay to drop off gear then shuttle the truck to Inuvik for the drive home.  I could stop off in Grand Prairie to visit my daughter on the way home........I'm in!

Cheers,
Ken

PS: for those in doubt and because I don't use lol or little face thingies, the above is humour, it's a slow day and I've had too much coffee.
I, haul the sled so therefore I am "the" dawg.....

Yukon mid Jan=dark and cold and slushy lakes…. Don't ask me how I know….
Best time to travel up here is mid march to mid april = long days (12+h day light) warm days/cold nights(-20c at night, -2c during the day to above zero)

Days would be a bit longer in the south(Watson Lake) than let say north, like Demster hwy(Tombstone area) But temperature not much different. It drops regularly to below -40c some time well bellow during the night and some time doesn't warmup much during day time. December January are usually the worst month to travel. Slush is a real problem to, if you travel on lakes and rivers. But every thing is possible, might not be a lot of fun but possible.

Keep me posted or sure. I might be interested… depending on time and area you choose!!
Cheers
