Painting my Estwing axe
« on: December 10, 2016, 06:25:41 pm »
I have an old Estwing axe, 26 1/2" long. I've cleaned the light surface rust off today and I'm going to paint the head with black engine enamel. I'm getting tired of cleaning the light rust off every year. Why black engine paint? Because it's what I have on hand that is durable. The bare metal shaft will be sprayed with clear marine urethane for the same reasons.

This axe, with its narrow head, is only good for chopping, not splitting. I carried it on Canadian canoe trips for camp fire wood and for clearing limbs from new portage routes so we could carry our canoe through.

BTW, Where can I find a supplier of leather axe sheaths?
