New Winter Tarp (Hammock)
« on: September 15, 2018, 01:24:38 PM »
I finally pulled the trigger and ordered a 12 foot Winter Haven from Simply Light Designs today. I've been going back and forth about what material to use and Jared helped finally choose. I wanted something as durable as possible and am not concerned at all about weight. I get some pretty nasty weather here in Ontario and I don't want to worry about babying my tarp. So I've ordered a charcoal grey 2.2 Hex70 XL 70D (comes in at 74 inches wide) with 3 internal poles. I'm a little concerned about it being nylon but I think with the internal poles and the heavy fabric I can work with the possible sag when it gets wet. For me, I wanted a full coverage tarp (wide) and there aren't a ton of options for fabrics. The 1.1 Silpoly just made me a bit too nervous about durability (although those fears may have been totally unjustified).

I figure I can use this either with my hammock or as simply a tarp for winter camping and sleeping right on the snow with it pitched right to the ground.

I felt bad as I had a ton of questions and was really seeking some validation in my choices, and Jared was great the entire way. Always quick to reply and gave some great suggestions. Everyone here has said how great the customer service is with SLD so that's the main reason I went with Jared, and I wasn't disappointed.

Once I get it I'll post up some pics.

You won't be disappointed and with the pole mod even better...seam seal it including the tie out stitching reinforcements and should be good to go for a long long time
