Northern BC trip
« on: February 13, 2020, 11:32:44 pm »
This post is inspired by the recent post by ANDN in General Winter Camping, which was a link to a Youtube movie on a trek in Northern Siberia, in Putorana Plateau.  I first posted this as a reply to ANDN's post, but then thought that it rather belongs in this section, here it is:

Beautiful trek that gave me an idea.   I am hoping for some response, especially from those of us  who live in the West (BC, Yukon, AB), but everyone interested is welcome. How about something similar in one of BC's volcanic plateaus?   I am thinking of Spatsizi or Mt Edziza from Iskut.  Spatsizi loop could be ~200km with some exploring in the centre of the park, two weeks or so. Mt Edziza would be shorter but more elevation gain.  Maybe not as remote and spectacular as Putorana Plateau, but a little warmer and easier to reach.  Anybody interested?  March would be a good month for that.  Probably too late for this year, but something to think about for the next year?  This year we could meet somewhere, say around Prince George (northern Cariboos or Rockies?) for a few days introductory ski/camp.  Maybe should post it in Trip Planning section...

I hope somebody will at least give it some thought.

Spatsizi is likely the best and easiest for a first adventure in.... it will be about 120km in to the furthest point of trail/road.
100km in gets you to the plateau on the old rail line base which also serves as a runway. It is a stunning run in and extremely remote.
